For many years, it has been in perpetuum that the brass music is the type for the police or military bands. The bands used to entertain during state functions like Madaraka day, Mashujaa and also national events. It was a onetime awaited event where the well whipped into shape and rehearsed drills were displayed skillfully by the statesmen. It pulled many due to how unique and symphonic the music was, people could always poke and scrape together just to see this artistic and picturesque music that towed them from their homes just to come and see the performance then go back as soon s they were done with entertainment. You could clearly see the declined numbers. What a tbt?
Now the blending and chiming music is brought to you by the
St. Joseph Cathedral Brass Band. It is not just music, but also the color of
the uniform and the grandstand of the musical instruments will leave you
wanting more of the entertainment. The mellow music seduces the ears and you
won’t realize how you end up being frenzied and yearning for more. Unlike how
people used to wait for a onetime event, the band brings this entertainment to
any event that you wish.

Leah: Hi thanks so
much for joining us, we would like to start by you telling us your name
Anita: Okay my name is Anita
Soina. I am a third year student at multimedia pursuing PR and cooperates
communication am also an inspirational speaker, I am a social media marketer or
online marketer and also social media manager but most importantly am an
environmental warrior or a climate change activist
Leah: thank you so much,
so you said you are an environmental activist particularly which areas do you
visit?
Anita : first when I
talk about environmental activism , I
can say activism is not a name we give to ourselves we have been fighting for
the environment that people end up call us activists because they think what we
are doing is activism so what I do is basically protection of the environment
in all corners we don’t care which
county we are doing it all over .We have done Kisumu,we have Nakuru ,Nairobi
Ogata Rongai area that is Kajiado we have also done Narok and Kilgoris
Leah: So being a
student and also taking care of the environment and social media what are some
of the challenges you experience
Anita : The main
challenge is balancing and then everything requires resources like moving from one place to
another getting even data to mobilize people on social media about environment
that’s resources and everything else ,yeah but balancing is quite hard but I
try a lot .You know we have 24 hours in a day and I can’t be in class for 24
hours , I cant be at home for 24 hours so I try and balance I start with what
is important and to me environment is important
Leah: So, speaking
about spice warriors how many members are you and what do you normally do to
keep the team spirit going on?
Anita : So first at the moment we don’t have an
office we are running in a whatsapp group ,so the fully registered members we
are up to 50 when I say fully registered member
I mean those people wo have paid the
registration fee but we also have other volunteers maybe wo haven’t paid the registration
fee but at least have our merchandise and are at least representing the spice warriors
.We are so many and also what keeps us going we work together as a team like I normally
say I don’t have funs but I have a team we work together as a team and working
as a team has helped us reach where we are today
Leah: Thanks so much
its very inspiring when you see young people making a difference and lastly I
would like to ask to tell youth who are out there who what to do something about
the environment what can you tell them ?
Anita: What I can tell
those people who what to engage in environment conservation ,do it now I don’t
know what they are waiting for because time is changing .I was telling my
friend today about global warming it’s a high time that we what to get married
fast before global warming destroys al the honeymoon destinations .i think we
should start right now and people shouldn’t wait everyone out there its your
planet we don’t care who you are where you are from its still your planet ,

In line with the above Survey that was conducted, it is very evident that the fashion trends in Kenya are fast.And Kenyans have acknowledged this fact.However quite a good number that don’t even care what goes on around them in line with fashion. If you could ask me there’s need for Kenyan’s to look out for fashion trends and how they unfold. Well I feel like the negligence of the number that voted that ” they don’t know ” or it doesn’t affect me has brought into perspective the cases of you walking in town and going past someone along the streets and you wonder to yourself “who dressed this person or don’t they have a mirror with them, it may not be as easy as it may sound to dress properly and look good but atleast as Kenyans we could definitely do better. Let’s learn to be cautious of our surroundings, a looking good definitely feels good and definitely no better way to repay your body for being so good to you than through dressing well, sometimes it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Fashion trends come and go be sure to try out the trending trend before its outdated.Fashion is life and looking good feels nice and a good body deserves to look good
the Event business has grown in number since they were first started , the popularity of events has not only been a business opportunity but also a place to meet people, network, interact and have fun.
I was conducting my research on the relevance of these events and the feedback was quite interesting, 45% of people said yes and when I got to interact with them they had credible points, most said the type of events these days have improved and seem to be heading on the right track.
26% said Maybe and this is what one of them had to say ‘Sometimes you go for an event and it’s really amazing and fun but once you go for it the second time it getting boring and monotonous”
There was a close margin and 24% of people who took the survey said they don’t attend events because they would rather save the money and do other things .
The minority of people who were 4% said No some compliances were about ticket prices and venue issues.
All in all the feedback only comes to show that events are a personal pleasure and depends on the person.
The life of a race car driver is not
only glamorous but also very risky, enough practice should be done in order
for them to master such a beautiful skill and be able to control the situation
no matter what.
Today we are focusing on Miguel a race car driver
who is practicing for the Safari rally event that kicked off in Kasarani
stadium Nairobi
Where he will be able to show
case his talent, Miguel participated in the Safari rally as a beginner better known
as a rookie and now aims at improving his skill and making a name for himself.
The 23-year-old who is still a student pursuing Engineering has always had a passion for race cars since he was a small boy he draws his inspiration from a professional Safari rally driver Ian Duncan and has looked up to him since he was a child.
He started practicingat the age of sixteen and continues to perfect his skill, in the above video you can see Miguel trying some drifting skills as his friends cheer him on.
‘It did not come easy it took a lot of sacrifice
for me to get here’ he echoes this words as I ask him how the journey is.
Despite all the challenges and minor accidents he still keeps his passion as he
prepares for the next event he is optimistic he will be able to finish
the race in record time and earn at least a trophy this he say will catapult
his name to the top and with enough time he will be able to join the greats in
motor racing not only in Kenya but in Africa.
AURELIUS: My name is Aurelius Robert my
work is to transport or import bales from outside the country, am an importer
of second hand clothes so that’s what I do
TERRY: So how does you being an importer of
bales how do you keep up with the trending fashion as per your time of
importation?
AURELIUS: Second hand clothes are unique in
their make so they don’t have to go with the current fashion people prefe5r
them because they come in their unique way so they are varying they don’t go
with the current fashion that is on going
TERRY: So how is the economic status of
your business as per now?
AURELIUS: The economy is not that bad
because this clothes are affordable to both the middle class and the poor they
come with affordable prices so the people around can afford to buy them, so I
think to me the economy is not bad it’s okay for me.
TERRY: So how has the coming of the Chinese
into Kenya and starting their own business of bale supply also affected your
business?
AURELIUS: It has affected us but I can see
the government is trying to restrict them from doing business in our markets so
I think after some time it will catch up and after they are out of the market
we will continue doing our business as normal
TERRY: Another thing is that we’ve heard
you as small scale business people complain about t5he clearing process at the
port what can you tell us about that?
AURELIUS: It has been a challenge to us
because currently the cargo is being cleared at the Nairobi inland container
deport so there has been so changes which has brought out some delays but the
president himself went to the port and declared the cargo should be cleared
very fast so that we can do our business in the right pace and receive the
cargo at the right time we need them.
TERRY: Since the president came to the port
has there been any changes with how you as business people are being handled at
the port?
AURELIUS: yes, yes absolutely yes because
we have seen very many containers being cleared from the port and we have
received all the cargo we needed at our markets, so right now we are doing very
well and we thank the president for that.
TERRY: So what will you tell someone who
wants to start the wholesale bale supply?
AURELIUS: you must have the passion for that
job because it has a lot of challenges, yeah so passion is all what you need
and hard work and be determined to work with different kinds of people and meet
different challenges.
Wanjiru: so would you state your name and what you
do??
Keseri: My name is Mary Keseri and I am a fashion designer
and head-wrap stylist based in Nairobi Kenya
Wanjiru: That’s wonderful so would you please tell
us about a recent event you attended and got to show case your pieces
Keseri: I attended Entpreneur Fashion week that was
on 18th March 2019, I got to show case there and also had an expo over there.
Honestly I wouldn’t want to show case there again coz I think of dressing into
something nice and Making an appearance, because you find when we go to show
case your stuff it’s not like International events where by the time you are
leaving all your items have been brought. But in that event there wasn’t like
any proper planning of which you know we do all this things to learn, but if I
ever want to show case again it will be for my collection AfriKeseri collection
where I will be show casing my nine collections that is the head-wraps, summer
gowns, summer wear, sandals and a lot of other things. And I also learnt that
the fashion merging in Kenya is compliant with what a fashion event is all about,
when you are attending a fashion event you are supposed to come and see what
fashion designers are offering and also buy from them, but most people in Kenya
just attend to be seen and now for my marketing strategy, I will be making an appearance
looking all dolled up, and carry my business card in that ‘ka’ small bag of mine
(In that small bag of mine) when I get there and people ask me where I got this
I will tell them that ‘I did it I am a designer here is my card’.
Wanjiru: So where do you see yourself in the next ten
years?
Keseri: Wow ten years that’s a really long time but
all malls will have AfriKeseri collection just like the way you see all malls
have Carrefour, my brand will really have grown even in other East African countries
like Uganda, Tanzania yeah I think I will really have grown.
Wanjiru: So is your brand Unisex or also includes
kids or it’s just a female brand?
Keseri: it’s a Unisex brand. I also have a kid’s
collection called AuntyKeseri kids collection and when it comes to outfits I
have both ladies and gents. When it comes to heads wraps I have male and female
wraps. So yes it’s a Unisex collection.
Wanjiru: wow that’s amazing. So would you give
advice to the upcoming entrepreneurs?
Keseri: If you are an upcoming entrepreneur be ready
to take risks, For example how I started my brand I started wearing head-wraps ten
years ago when I was only thirteen, you can only you can get to know what I was
getting people telling me why are you wearing head-wraps? You look like a mama
(you look like an elderly mother) only to come and find out that would be my
brand ten years later. What I would tell upcoming Entrepreneurs be it in any field
be it Fashion, be it Technology be it business find a niche and love whatever
you are doing. Imagine I didn’t love fashion, I didn’t love head-wraps I
wouldn’t have impact on the public. You should find something you love I such a
way that no matter what people tell, no matter the circumstances you will still
feel like waking up and doing what you do. So don’t do things because other
people are telling you what to do, do what you love. Because now am wearing
head- wraps every day and no one can tell me ‘Keseri you don’t look good’ I
will be like sorry honey you don’t know what you are talking about. So you
should be very hard-working, a risk taker, persistent and above all pray, work
and believe.
